Summer of Sisterhood
Under the direction of Youth Services Director, Maya Smith, 35 girls ages 10 – 18 participate in an intensive 8-week summer arts camp. The Summer of Sisterhood’s mission is to teach young women how to express themselves positively, creatively, and more importantly, the power of their voice to create work that is relevant and a powerful alternative to the negative messages often found in popular culture. The girls work with professional teaching artists in several areas of the arts including: music and poetry composition, creative writing, dance, and acting, and develop a project that they write, perform and record. The summer culminates in a live performance and/or showing of works.
