Volunteer Recognition

Gretty Myers

West Side Community House is fortunate to have many exceptional volunteers. We want to thank all of you for your time, skills, talents, compassion, humor and hard work. We would never be able to touch so many lives if it weren’t for all of you. We will be using this page to regularly recognize our volunteers, so be sure to check back so that you can learn more about them.

As I learned about the rich history and the passion of the vital community of WSCH to care for the people of the surrounding neighborhoods, I knew someday I would become involved.  I want to share my gift of caring for others with encouragement and mercy and joy, listening to their stories and trying to make a difference in their lives.
Gretty Myers

Gretty joined the Board of West Side Community House in 2007, served on the Strategic Planning Committee and is currently a member of the Marketing and Fundraising Committee. In addition to her role as a Board Member, Gretty also volunteers one day a week in our senior center and soon will be trained as a volunteer coach for WSCH’s A Matter of Balance class.

Gretty has been a volunteer at many WSCH events like West Side Family Fun Day and the Family Gathering. Not only does she volunteer, she also recruits teams of volunteers from her church and coordinates their activities at the events.

Gretty even gets her family members to participate. Recently, she learned about a 17-year-old mother at WSCH named “Sally” who did not know how to read. Gretty immediately recruited her daughter-in-law who has experience as a teacher. Gretty now “volunteers” to watch her grandson one day a week so that her daughter-in-law can teach a young woman to read.

That’s what we call volunteer power! Thank you Gretty!
